  1. My thought after watching both video lessons 4 and 5 is that one measure of playing strength is likely the speed of the player’s consideration of these factors and another would be the accuracy of his/her judgement. Practice is vital.

  2. You mention “My System” here by Nimzowitsch. When is a good moment in time to read it?. I mean at what level of rating is it useful?. Any thoughts on that?

  3. Hi Pablo,

Well, if you would twist my arm and force me to name ELO rating, I would say about 1700-1800. That could be the playing strength where one has a certain command of tactics and can start learning some more strategical themes.

But, having said that, Nimzowitsch is a great verbalizer. I think also weaker players can benefit from his book, because he uses the metaphor as an important style element in his language and ideas.

The free pawn f.i. is a “criminal that should be kept behind lock and barrel!”

He also speaks of “evolution” and “revolution” in describing two different ways of attack. The first one refers to “building up pressure” and the second one to an “immediate break through”.

The stuff described there is quite accessible to many chess players of different strengths.

I would suggest you read it, it is a lot of fun and is entertaining also! Every extra bit of playing strentgh you pick up along the way is gain!

    Cheers,

    Waldemar

  4. Thanks for your insights unto Nimzowitsch. I am 1650 rated and always hesitant if I should devote time to it…I hope he is as clear as you!.
