In this lecture I want to show you how games are often lost, namely by a lack of sufficient appreciation for important chess factors. You can avoid losing like this and become a better chess player by learning to appreciate what strong positional assets are, how you can keep or obtain them, and how to exploit them.

  1. So now I get the opportunity to better understand the depth of chess. I’ve remarked often to myself that my games are superficial – there are few if any moments when the kind of analysis made in this illustrative game occur. It seems much more understandable now why I am outplayed, even by opponents with similar or even lower ratings. In this game, Black certainly did not appreciate the important factors of the position. A good lesson for me.
